My Take on Major Website Platforms

With many website platforms available, here are my personal opinions on the major ones I’ve used so far.

WebFlow

WebFlow is currently my favorite for its simplicity in setting up and creating websites. What sets it apart for me is the CMS collections feature, which adds a unique layer to the platform. However, it does have limitations, particularly if you’re looking to create a database-heavy website. The speed drops significantly with the increased details and number of items. I hope they address this issue and enhance its ability to handle larger CMS sizes.

If you are looking to make a blog/news website. Steer clear of WebFlow. Right now there is a limit of 2,000-10,000 CMS items. You can easily blow past. Which is crazy. Many sites have unlimited items.

However, WebFlow also boasts a community that creates apps to further enrich the platform, making it much more compatible than WordPress. Overall, WebFlow is one of the best platforms for creating portfolios, company/business pages, and simple collections.

WordPress

In my opinion, WordPress is best for blogs. However, when it comes to portfolios or setting up an e-commerce site, it’s better to steer clear.

One of WordPress’s strengths is its community, which generates apps, plugins, themes, and more. However, with disparate groups and individuals contributing, it’s impossible to predict how well these elements will work together. Some plugins might not work with certain themes, and vice versa.

WordPress has been working on standardizing these elements, but I have found it frustrating in my personal experience, leading me to reduce the number of plugins and abandon some themes.

Shopify

If you’re looking to sell anything online, Shopify is your best bet. It’s designed to handle high volumes of orders, outperforming other platforms in this regard. From my research and anecdotal evidence, Shopify consistently emerges as the clear winner for those venturing into e-commerce.

Sitefinity

I wouldn’t choose Sitefinity unless you’re a large enterprise, and even then, I would recommend considering other platforms first. Sitefinity offers a somewhat niche service, providing customized platforms for clients when other platforms can’t meet specific needs.
